Our industry is rich with many trade publications and information outlets at work on our behalf. We deeply value the relationships that we have with several of our industry’s most reputable publications, and we highly encourage all produce companies in this space to get to know the writers and editors that bring publications like The Packer, Produce Business, Produce News, and And Now U Know to life. Fresh produce growers battle many challenges when it comes to planting and harvesting quality fruits and vegetables with the unrelenting hurdles Mother Nature throws our way. But when it comes to the challenge of consumer trends – particularly ever-changing diet trends - we have reason to let out a big sigh of relief. Fresh fruits and vegetables are at the center of plates for popular eating preferences such as of gluten-free, paleo, vegan, vegetarian, raw, fresh, and plant-based diets, not to mention the array of programs like Weight Watchers and Jenny Craig. These eating preferences create a win-win situation for fresh produce marketers, giving us a number of platforms to connect with consumers and in turn serve as a resource for our customers.

To dive a little deeper into this idea of leveraging eating or a diet trend to become a resource to our customers, let’s take a look at a quick Google trend report that shows an impressive rise in online users’ interest in ‘vegan’ web searches since 2011. (Note Google’s forecast for this search term shows even more increase in 2015.) Plant based foods (like yours) are in the limelight – in the grocery store and in restaurants.

When preparing for a tradeshow, many of us in the fresh produce industry focus on several main components: the booth, the theme, selling points, product displays, and maybe promoting your presence through trade ads, sponsorships and social media posts. And considering the frantic nature of attending any tradeshow and the full plate we know you have, it’s no surprise that valuable marketing tactics can fall by the wayside. But with PMA Foodservice, a more intimate a close-knit show just around the corner, there is no better time to implement these smart BUT easy to execute marketing tactics.

Here are 6 marketing moves to make during your time at PMA Foodservice 2014:

1. Send Personal Email Invitations Inviting Prospects to Your Booth

If you’ve been collecting contacts into a database of any kind, you will be able to create and send an email inviting them to visit your booth. But don’t just invite them to come – give them a compelling reason to stop by! Pre-tradeshow emails work best when they tell your audience what problem you’re going to solve for them if they come to your booth.
