Earlier this month we told you about DMA’s resolution to make a difference together in the year 2012. Now February is here and we have completed our first philanthropic cause as a team: making the vertical trek up 52 flights of stairs in one of the most recognizable buildings of the Dallas Skyline.

You may be wondering what prompted us to challenge our hearts and legs with such a grueling test of physical (and for some, emotional) endurance. The event, called The Big “D” Climb, is coordinated by and benefits the North Texas Chapter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS). The FRESH Team climbed for many people, including Brock’s dad, a 25-year leukemia survivor; one of our team member’s students; and a friend’s son, Rylan, who was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia when he was only 22 months old.

The FRESH Team, 12 climbers strong, included, in addition to DMA Team Members: friends and family of DMA, Jarrod Snider of Frontera Produce, and Shelly Fryer and Gina Miller, teachers at Ditto Elementary, a local school we’re working to place a Salad Bar in. Our climbers had all different levels of physical experience, but we pushed our hearts, and each other, to the limit, supporting one another the entire way up. After the last flight was conquered, The FRESH Team had raised a total of $4,017 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
