What Does the Color of Your Brand Say About Your Business?

Friday, February 24th, 2012

Having a creative outlet is a necessity for me.  When I say ‘necessity’, I mean it’s a fundamental need for me to decompress and stay sane.  Painting a wall is actually like spending an hour lying on the proverbial ‘couch’.  I love playing with colors to transform ideas from one aesthetic to another.  From one feeling to another.  From one type of energy to another.  Design changes the way we interpret things, and colors are a key factor in the perceptions that we ultimately land on.

Colour Lovers!

Friday, February 24th, 2012

Our industries – both FRESH produce and marketing – are alive with vibrancy and COLOR.  So, it makes perfect sense that The Core authors and DMA team members come outfitted with colorful personalities as well.

Marci discovered this great website that covers the entire spectrum of color related topics. Our favorite part (in addition to endless amounts of inspiration) is the community of other creative minds gathering simply to share and discuss the latest creative trends. Colour Lovers allows you to experiment with shades and hues of reds and blues and build your very own palette, name your own colors and design visually intense patterns.

We each used this tool to create individual color brands that evoke our personalities, interests, and the tint of our auras.  OK, maybe not, but this exercise was still fun for us and would be a great teambuilding tool for you and your companies/organizations, as well.

Check out our personal color brands below and share yours with us here, as well!

Dan’l, The Entertainer: In the day and through the night I reside in vibrancy.  I seek and admire neutral and calm, but I always seem to find myself most suited with the bright and bold.

Brock, The Health Nut:  Honestly, these are just my favorite colors in descending order and, I think, they just happen to go together.  The last block is pure white, the exact color of my soul.

Marci, The Analyst:  This palette represents the colors I’m really drawn to in master bedroom designs lately.  I’m contemplating how I want to utilize these in my own room redesign.

Cliff, The Designer:  I’ve always been a huge fan of rust orange and warm dark grey. Not sure why, but I love how they look together. Probably because I love the look of rust on all things old, especially old advertising and neon signs. Khaki grey because it’s a good natural grey color, that feels warmer than the cool drab grey in Seattle 8-9 months of the year. White, because it’s a blank slate for me to create something beautiful. And the blue because I look good in blue!

Kelly, The Visualizer:  Not only are these colors ones you might find in the great outdoors, but they reflect my attempted approach to most things in life – energetic, yet calm and balanced. And yes, that is the Pantone-official Aggie Maroon™.

Mike, The Designer #2:  My color palette portrays the time of year in Seattle and the colors I see on a daily basis while I’m spending my winter living on the beach.

Mackenzie, The Promoter:  I’ve always had a thing for purple, and when it came time for a bedroom redesign I was drawn to a royalty-inspired color palette. The combo of rich purples, gold and brown with a splash of Tiffany Blue makes me feel relaxed but also young and girly!

Megan, The Optimist:  These days I’m loving the docile tones of gray mixed with bright terra cotta and turquoise.  Recently my best friend and I redecorated her kitchen using variations of these colors, inspired by a West Texas sunset.

Gracie, The Intern: These colors warm me up and make me think of good weather even when it is cold out. The peachy pink, pale green and light pink are some of my favorite colors!

DMA Solutions: These colors represent DMA as a company: forward-thinking, energetic and FRESH.
