As a voice of my generation, post-college employment no longer seems to be simply defined as 9 to 5 in a cube. Many of my fellow Gen Y’ers are taking an alternative route, veering away from the wrath of the “real world” – a route that makes a difference in people’s lives while providing lifelong skills and and meeting critical demands in the community. Passion is a funny thing. Passions are different, I am learning, than interests or loves. I am interested in travel and technology. I love my daughter, my family, friends and work. I am passionate about food, wine, music…and fresh produce. Passions tend to worm their way into every aspect of our existence. Passions are impossible to shake no matter where you are, and even when you are well aware you are annoying those in your presence.

It’s easy to forget that what we do is important. We do not sell timeshares. We do not sell debts. We do not sell overpriced trinkets and tell people our wares will make them feel better about themselves. We sell fresh fruit and vegetables. We sell healthy living. We sell delicious experiences. At DMA, we like to break the rules and, having just returned from the recent United Fresh 2010 show in Las Vegas, we’re gonna break the biggie. With so many outstanding exhibits of excellence, we feel that what happened in Vegas SHOULDN’T stay in Vegas! We were blown away by booths, bites, brochures and a beauxcoup of brilliance and wouldn’t feel right keeping them to ourselves. Congratulations are in order for those companies and individuals who brought their “A” game and elevated the United Fresh experience to excellent. I’m a huge, I mean HUGE, Duke fan. I have immense respect for both their academic and athletic programs and for the basketball legacy that Coach K is building. So, needless to say, I am beyond thrilled that the Duke men emerged victorious from this year’s NCAA tournament. But, even though I’m a die-hard Blue Devil, I couldn’t help get caught up in the feel-good and against-all-odds story of Duke’s opponent in the title game, the Butler Bulldogs. (more…)
